A figure that differs from its cited page, a link that no longer works, a sentence that claims more than its source, or a question about how something was counted. The desk goes back to the source and replies.

What happens next

The text is changed in place and the date of the change is written beside it. Nothing is edited silently, because each figure holds for the day it was read.

Outside the desk's reach

Personal investment advice, a view on whether to open an account or copy a strategy, and help with a broker's account, a withdrawal or a complaint. A broker answers for its own account; the regulator takes what the broker does not settle.
